How to Create and Manage a Company Audience (ABM)

Build ABM target-account audiences by company — using firmographic filters or a company list CSV upload — no contact emails or CRM seed required.

What is a Company audience?

Company audiences let you target advertising to a list of companies — your target accounts — rather than a list of individual contacts. Unlike a Manual CRM audience, you don't need any contact emails or a CRM seed.

Company audiences are available for ABM campaigns only.

There are two ways to build one:

  • Firmographic audience — define your target accounts with company filters, no list needed.

  • Company list upload — upload a CSV of accounts you already know.

Where to create a Company audience

You can start from two places:

  • From the Audiences page (left nav) — click New audience.

  • Inline from a campaign — in an ABM campaign strategy, open the Custom Audiences module and click + Create audience. A slideover opens where you choose your source: Contacts list, Company list, or Firmographic audience. The advertiser is pre-selected and the new audience is immediately available in the current strategy once ready.

Option 1 — Firmographic audience

  • Choose Firmographic audience as the source and select the advertiser.

  • Set your filters:

    • Industry

    • Company size (size bands)

    • Employee location

    • Job function

    • Job level

Within a single filter, values are combined with OR; different filters are combined with AND.

  • As you adjust filters, an estimated company count updates live so you can size your segment before saving. Individual companies are not listed or selectable — if you want to hand-pick accounts, use a Company list upload instead.

  • Name your audience (max 100 characters; we recommend a unique, descriptive name) and click Save.

Option 2 — Company list upload

  • Choose Company list as the source and select the advertiser.

  • Upload a .CSV where each line identifies a company by company website, company email domain, or LinkedIn company page URL. The flow mirrors the Manual CRM contact upload.

  • Name your audience and click Save.

ℹ️ You don't need to normalize your input — we handle resolving company identifiers (e.g. "google" / "Google Cloud" / "Alphabet") for you.

Building takes time (asynchronous)

After you save, the audience isn't ready instantly. The estimated count is shown at creation, but the final audience size becomes available only once the background build completes — around 2 hours on average.

The audience moves through these statuses:

  • Processing — the audience is being built; the final size is not yet available.

  • Ready — the audience is built and can be selected in your ABM campaign.

  • Error — the build failed; try creating the audience again.

For a full explanation of all audience statuses, see Understanding Audience Sync Statuses.

Using a Company audience in a campaign

In an ABM campaign strategy, open the Custom Audiences module:

  • Ready Company audiences can be selected and used immediately.

  • Processing audiences are disabled until the build finishes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need contact emails or a CRM connection?

A: No — that's the point of Company audiences. Use firmographic filters or a company-list CSV instead of a contact list.

Q: Can I pick individual companies from a list?

A: No. Firmographic audiences show an estimated company count only, not a browsable company list. To target specific accounts, upload a Company list.

Q: Can I use a Company audience on a non-ABM campaign?

A: No — Company audiences are available for ABM campaigns only for now.

Q: Why is my audience not selectable yet?

A: It's still Processing. It becomes selectable once its status is Ready (around 2 hours on average).
